How to Start a Custom Boxing Glove Line for Your Gym

By FBG Sports

Published:

For a US gym owner, a branded glove line starts with a clear product specification and a realistic first order. This guide shows how to move from a design idea to a sample and manufacturing quote, including how to discuss a proposed 50-pair run.

1. Define who the glove is for

Start with one intended use: a gym merchandise range, a training glove for members or a retail brand launch. Ask your coach to help define the requirements for training and sparring. Do not describe a glove as competition-approved unless the relevant governing body’s requirements and approval have been checked. A logo and color scheme cannot establish suitability or protective performance.

2. Write a specification before asking for prices

List shell material, glove weights, closure style, lining, padding requirements, color references and logo placement. Include drawings or reference photos and identify what is essential versus optional. Ask the manufacturer to explain the available construction and material options. An ounce label describes nominal glove weight; it does not replace fit assessment or a review of intended use.

3. Treat 50 pairs as a proposal, not a guaranteed minimum

A 50-pair launch can be a useful planning scenario, but it is not a confirmed FBG Sports minimum order. Ask whether 50 pairs are feasible with your selected materials, weights, colors and branding. State quantities in pairs, not individual gloves. Splitting a small order across many variants may change feasibility or price. Ask whether minimums apply per style, color or weight and whether sample charges are separate.

4. Use the 3D design to communicate your brand

Choose the available glove model, add your colors and upload artwork you have permission to use. Check placement from multiple angles. The preview helps explain the design; screen colors and a rendered surface are not a guarantee of finished materials or exact print placement. Send original artwork and written placement instructions with the quote enquiry.

5. Approve a physical sample and written specification

Ask about sample cost, lead time and revision charges. Review the stitching, closure, lining, hand compartment, logo placement and the agreed material details. Have the intended users assess fit and use with appropriate coaching guidance. Agree acceptance criteria and how production defects will be handled. Keep the approved sample and final written specification as references for the bulk order.

6. Compare landed cost for your US delivery address

A unit price alone does not describe your total budget. Ask for quote currency, sample and artwork charges, packaging, freight and delivery terms. Confirm who is responsible for import clearance, duties and taxes; consult your customs broker when needed. Divide the complete estimated order cost by the number of saleable pairs to compare sourcing options on the same basis. Do not assume a quotation includes every import charge.

7. Work backward from your launch date

Separate artwork review, sample development, revisions, production, shipping and customs clearance in your schedule. Ask which stage each quoted lead time covers. Give the manufacturer your required arrival date and delivery ZIP code before paying a deposit. A carrier transit estimate is not the time from your first enquiry to delivery. Allow room for changes before advertising a fixed launch date.

8. Prepare a complete quote request

Include your business or gym name, target quantity in pairs, quantities by weight and color, intended use, shell and closure preferences, artwork, packaging requirements, sample request, budget currency, delivery ZIP code and required arrival date. Ask for minimum quantities, sample terms, production schedule, payment terms, shipping options and responsibility for import charges in writing.
